Booksmith Conservation Studio is attached to a private home and is located up one flight of stairs.
The studio is not ADA accessible, however if one requires special assistance, some accommodation may be possible. Bookbinding does require most tasks be done standing.
Parking is available on the street but may require walking around the corner (on a hill).
A lunch break of 30 minutes is figured into the time of the workshop. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch or snack so the class can keep moving.
CANCELLATION POLICY: A full refund will be issued if cancelling 5 days prior to the workshop in writing (email or text). No refund will be issued if cancelling 1-4 days prior to workshop and the fee will not be transferable to another workshop.
Once your registration is complete, you will be sent a confirmation with address and directions to the studio.

Description

The flatback binding is a basic binding technique that will teach you how to prepare and sew a textblock, line the spine, make a case and case-in a modern book. This will be a fast-paced workshop and depending on the speed of students, a second book may be made. Basic bookbinding terminology, tools, materials, and a short history of binding techniques will be covered, as time permits. The cost of the workshop includes materials, use of shared tools, and handouts. Students are encouraged to bring a small notebook in which to take their own notes.
